Staff jobs rise at EU shipyards

STAFF jobs in Europe’s shipbuilding industry were up last year for the first time in decades, a conference in Brussels heard this week.

Almost five years after the start of the current order boom and around six after the industry bemoaned the fact that it was facing its worst crisis since the Second World War, direct employment was up - marginally - an academic told a gathering in a European Union institution.
